Representative of Florida's 22nd Congressional District

Now serving his sixth term, Ted Deutch came to Congress in a special election in April 2010. He represents Florida’s 22nd district which covers portions of South Florida including Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale and southeastern Palm Beach County.

 

A member of the Democratic Party, Ted holds leadership positions on 3 important committees. He is a senior member on Judiciary, he is Chair of the Ethics Committee, and he is senior member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as Chairman of Subcommittee on the Middle East, North Africa, and International Terrorism and on the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, Energy and Environment.

 

Ted first gained national recognition in the Florida State Senate when he wrote and passed the nation’s first law mandating that public pension funds not be used to advance Iran’s illicit quest for nuclear weapons.

 

As a leading member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Ted has written and passed into law, measures cracking down on Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Ted has also authored a legislation that was signed into law cracking down on the illicit funding of Hezbollah and passed legislation urging Europe to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Ted’s bill supporting the new U.S. – Israel Memorandum of Understanding passed the House unanimously last summer. Legislation he introduced with Senator Bob Menendez and Congressman Gus Bilirakis, the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act, was signed into law in December 2019 as part of the appropriations package.

 

Ted is the founding co-chair of the Congressional Hellenic Israel Alliance, a bipartisan caucus dedication to strengthening the relationship between the United States, Greece, Cyprus, and Israel. He recently led a bipartisan Congressional delegation of ten Members of Congress to Cyprus, Greece, and Israel.

 

Ted has been singled out by the Washington newspaper Roll Call as a young, rising voice in the House Democratic Caucus, called a “very smart congressman” on foreign affairs and the Middle East by Atlantic reporter Jeffrey Goldberg.

Aside from these accomplishments, Ted is the proud husband of Jill and father of three.
